Random mated Buckfast queens are derived from first class-tested breeder queens. They are bred at our isolated mating area with a mix of selected Buckfast drones to ensure vitality.
The random mated queens are not suitable for production of F-1s and further breeding, but suitable for production colonies. The strict selection of breeder queens and drones provides a high and reliable quality of our random mated queens.
Markings:
Our random mated queens are always marked with the international color code.

Island
Mated Queens
Type 02 – Island mated queens
Island mated queens are derived from 1st first Class tested breeder queens. Virgins are brought to one of our islands to mate with drones from daughters of selected drone providing breeder queens. The combination of several queens, with varying attributes, and different drone lines, makes it possible for us to produce queens with unique characteristics, suitable for various conditions. The isolated location and the population of one kind of drone guarantee pure mated queens that can be used for further selection and production of F-1s. Complete pedigrees for queens and drones are issued upon request.

Type 03 – Overwintered island mated queens
Overwintered queens are island mated queens from the previous season. They are wintered side by side in large colonies in August/September.
Overwintered queens can be used for the production of F-1s and give a good start of the season. Due to limited numbers, they should be ordered by the end of the season for delivery the coming year. Complete pedigrees for queens and drones are issued upon request.

Selected
Breeders
Type 04 – Selected Breeders
Each year we have a limited number of selected breeders for sale.
The selected breeders are two years old and have been tested in their first year on the following characteristics: swarm tendency, comb behaviour, aggression, honey yield, nosema resistance, and hygienic behaviour. They are suitable for new combinations and production of F-1s. We recommend ordering at least one year in advance. Complete pedigrees for queens and drones are issued upon request.
